Thoughts about the SSC:

This being my 14th and final year at CIS, I can’t recall a time without an SSC. Over the years, the council has taken many forms and has accomplished different levels of success. Some former councils have been remarkable at what they’ve managed to achieve; others have failed to hardly make an impact. However, the council has never failed to reflect the image and desires of the student body itself. Being such a tiny school, the CIS community is never difficult to become accustomed to. Some may argue that the student body’s size limits its capacity to maximize its potential. Sure were not as big as our other Southeast Asian counterparts, but we make up for out size in terms dedication.

Dedication is nothing without a goal. As student leaders, we try to give direction to the student body and help empower the students. We believe that each individual’s student’s contribution to the CIS community is essential in reaching the overall goal of the body. The council strives together with its students towards achieving both personal and communal ambitions. Here at CIS, we believe in synergy, we depend on our peers and colleagues to The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We are the student council, we are united.ited.

Current Affairs

Greetings!

The holiday break has come to an end and I’m quite sure that after this first week back in the classroom, we all want to go back home and enjoy not being overloaded with work. The second semester has begun and there no turning back. Before we know it, we’ll be sitting at our desks taking our final exams. Studying, as always, should kick into a higher gear.

Extra work doesn’t mean that there’ll be less events happening. In late January our boys varsity soccer and girls varsity basketball teams will be heading off to Baguio for the second installment of this years ISAC conference hoping to leap frog current leaders Brent Subic. The girls basketball team is looking pretty good this year under the leadership of Mr. Ditchmeister along with all the practice acquired from the Mini League. The boys team this year is a fairly young one, with four starters coming from Middle School with only two seniors on the roster. Apart from ISAC, there are two legs of the Don Bosco soccer tournament. The SSC is trying to organize rallies and support for the school sports reams.

The Student Council is currently devising a new and improved school sweater. Hopefully there will be two different designs (a green and a white sweater). A sample should be out soon after the council has finalized a design and gained approval from Mr. Mecklem.

Within three weeks time the school will be sending a delegation made up of juniors and seniors up to Manila to participate in the Model United Nations Assembly. Last years participation in the assembly was a great success.

Cerealicious, the second semester vendor , was well received and the council is hoping to either bring in Schwarma or Smokey’s for the third quarter. We’ll keep you posted on this and try to have them as soon as possible.

Go CIS!

Status of the school

We, the supreme student council of cebu international school, feel that the fulfillment of our objectives are on track. We have agreed to endeavor to make a positive impact on the school for the student body by working with the school administration to recognize and try to fulfill the wants and needs of students.

At this moment, we are pleased with the school environment in general.  We have not received negative feedback from the student body on any specific issue on safety, cleanliness, or other related thing. As students, we too are content with our school. Furthermore, no general problems exist between teachers and students and we feel the faculty and administration are very approachable.

School spirit was one of the things we really wanted to work on when we were first elected although not much has been achieved on this front yet. We are working to bring the school closer together through a number of things and events that are in the works and we hope to be able to implement these things successfully. We, however, have detected livelier atmospheres when we have organized events and ran them successfully and we will continue to do similar things.

Message From the President:

Throughout my life as a student, I have always exhibited a great deal of admiration and respect towards the Supreme Student Council.  I have always imagined how it would be like to be in that council, sitting in a position of greatness, having that student body in the palm of my hand.  Now, in my final year of high school, I have finally made my childhood imagination a reality.  Today, I sit before the entire student body as your current Student Council President.  In all honesty, being in this position is completely incoherent with what I have imagined in the past.  Being in the Supreme Student Council is a relentless stream of responsibilities to fulfill, deadlines to meet, and ideas to be made.  The combined effects of my school work and Student Council obligations make my senior year a living hell.  But do not get me wrong; I am not trying to discourage others from someday pursuing their ambitions of becoming a member of the Student Council.  In totality, I have to say that my experience as president of the council has taught me some of the more necessary life values and morals that are required to live a harmonious and co-existent livelihood.  Simply put, the Supreme Student Council has made me a better person.

So please allow me to exercise the skills and morals I have acquired through my experiences.  With the combined efforts of my co-members, we vow to strengthen the social bonds and learning atmosphere around school.
