TENTATIVE VACANCY - MHS PRINCIPAL

Cebu International School (CIS) was established in 1924, in Cebu City, the Queen City of the Southern Philippines. Cebu City is the second largest city in the Philippines, is located on the tropical island of Cebu, and has many of the modern amenities of a big city with the case of access to the relaxed beach lifestyle. The international airport allows for easy access in and out of Cebu, and daily flights to Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul.

Cebu International School is the only internationally accredited school in Cebu City, with Council of International Schools (CIS), WASC and PAASCU. In addition, CIS is an IB World school offering the IB Diploma.

The position: CIS seeks an energetic applicant who has experience in both international schools and as a Middle/High Principal. At this stage of the school's development, and within the current team, these are two essential pre-requisites. In addition, the applicant needs to be a team player and believe that respect for others, community and self guides everything we say and do at our school. The positiona lso requires someone who is interested in helping the school, and the faculty be the very best that they can be, therefore extensive experience with evaluation / appraisal is desirable. We are implementing Rubicon Atlas curriculum mapping, UbD curriculum design and the MAP testing system, therefore experience in these two areas is helpful. In addition implementing and managing change with careful consideration to the cultural context is also a major focus for this job. The salary / benefits package offered in this job is not as attractive as other international schools, however this job is for someone who wants to make a difference. The lifestyle offered by living in tropical Cebu city is also an added bonus, with easy access to beaches and spas to balance out all that hard work!

Start is scheduled for mid July 2011.

Email: a letter of application, CV (including a small photo and the names / contact details of three referees) to hrd@cis.edu.ph and Superintendent@cis.edu.ph

The School: CIS is an English medium schoo, catering for both host country and expatriate students who live in Cebu or the neighbouring islands.

Our school prepares students to enter Universitites overseas.

The key words that guide everything we say and do are: Respect, teamwork, communication and collaboration.

Curriculum: CIS curriculum starts from the IB Diploma and works backwards down to our Pre-School 3 programme. We use Atlas Rubicon curriculum mapping, and adapted the AERO standards and benchmarks. CIS is focusing on developing and reviewing the curriculum to ensure that we have a quality curriculum that leads to success in the IB Diploma. This also means that we have entry standards for our second language English speakers, and that we do not have ESL students in our Grade 10 year.

Students: We have a relatively stable student population, with more than 20 different nationalities represented and capped at 30% for any one nationality. The CIS students are very friendly, open, warm and caring, and many of our visitors have remarked on their friendliness. Our enrolment hovers around the 450 student level.

Our faculty are predominantly Filipino and the expatriate hires are all internationally experienced. The goal is within the next 3-5 years, depending on student enrolment, to have the faculty balanced in diversity with different nationalities represented and more internationally experienced teachers being employed. We currently have 51 full-time teaching faculty and 4 part-time faculty for SY1011. We have a further 30 non-teaching staff to support the operations of the school.

The major focus of the school at the moment is to improve the student learning experience and we are working hard on writing curriculum (UbD) and ensuring that it is articulated vertically and horizontally, expand the variety of teaching methodologies and assessment practices. We have also raised expectations within the community and established accountability measures for both student and staff.

School Facility: The school has a wonderful facility - please check out our website for photos. We are focusing on developing non-text book based resourcing and this means that we are also developing our IT network infrastructure to support the teaching/learning process. We have a wireless campus, and students do tend to use their laptops, however we realize that we need to take it further with other innovations. The swimmingpools, climbing wall, and spacious grounds are often commented upon by visitors to our school.

For further information about CIS, please do take the time to review our website. We hope that you can obtain a 'feel' for the school culture by reviewing it.
