G5 Reports

G5 Reports

Grade 5 reports are the same as the Grade 1-4 reports, except for the Foreign Language course. All other subject reports are developmental based on the CIS standards.

However, the Foreign Language reports are criteria-related.

All subjects – except Foreign Languages – standard-related reports

Developmental map:

Standard- related

The information in this report records where your child is on a developmental map that is linked directly to the CIS standards and relevant benchmarks for the year level. There are 4 stages of the development, beginning (1) to mastery (4).  IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Although the benchmarks are grouped to cover a three-year span, the teachers have identified how the benchmarks will be used for focus at each year level and this means that your child will be assessed using the scale from beginning to mastery each year.  The Beginning to Mastery scale descriptors are found in the Parent/Student handbook and explain what each level means.

CIS Middle/High School is using criteria related assessment:

At the end of each marking period the student will be awarded a 1 to 7 grade in each subject, in keeping the IB DP system.  The 1 - 7 grade will be determined according to the criteria-related assessment process.  Note: there are 1-7 achievement levels AND there are 1-7 Grades - they are different.  1-7 achievement levels are explained by the CIS Criteria descriptors, and the 1-7 grades are explained in the CIS Parent/Student Handbook.

Steps required in criteria related assessment:

Step 1

The teacher sets a summative task and ensures the students know which criteria will be used for the task and also that they understand them.  The student is required to use the criteria descriptors as a guide to success.

Step 2

The student completes the work with formative feedback from the teacher.

Step 3

The teacher assesses the work objectively, using the criteria. The teacher finds a good match between the work submitted and the descriptor levels - this is called the best fit.  The descriptor level informs the student of the quality of the work and on reading the descriptor of the next higher level, the student is able to ask questions about how to improve work.  Learning is an ongoing process.

Step 4

The teaching programme continues with further summative tasks consolidating the assessment process.  The student is given opportunities to develop their learning, and build on their successes.

Step 5

At the end of the marking period, the teacher reviews all the achievement levels for each criterion gained by the student, and records the best fit at the report date.

Step 6

The final subject grade is awarded using an achievement level conversion table.
