Cebu International School is a stable work environment that has been in existence since 1924. CIS has a generous salary/benefits package for host country employees.

We advertise vacancies in the Cebu newspapers and Jobstreet, as well as this website.

TEACHING STAFF

Cebu International School hires both host country and expatriate faculty. The salary paid to all teachers, regardless of status (host country/expat), is exactly the same. Benefits differ depending on the status.

Teaching vacancies for the following school year are listed on this website after 1st December of each year.

CIS attends some recruitment Fairs – TRI Sydney, Search Sydney and Search London. Attendance depends on the number of vacancies listed.

We also advertise on websites: TIE online, JobStreet, as well as newspapers both in Manila and also Cebu.

CIS - WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN OUR TEACHERS? (please read CIS Teacher Expectations)
  • Experienced teachers with IB experience and/or good knowledge of the IB philosophy and programme for their area.
  • Previous international school experience, the more the better!
  • Strong pastoral care experience – or the knowledge of what is expected in pastoral care. We care for each student in our class/homeroom – their academic, social and emotional well being.
  • We are a small school, we need our teachers to be flexible and have the ability to wear different hats and want to take on new and different roles within the school, so that you can ‘grow’ as an educator and add new skills to your CV.
  • Honesty and transparency – the ability to approach colleagues and administrators if they have a problem with them, be open and honest with their issue and make a genuine attempt to resolve it at an initial level first, before moving to the next step.
  • If unhappy, or upset or angry about something that has happened in the school, to be able to communicate that with the appropriate person. Not to sit and ponder on it and let it fester and eat away.
  • In other words, mature teachers with good conflict resolution skills, who have an ability to recognize that we will not all agree all the time, and respectful of the processes in place, the decision making structure and supportive of decisions made in such a way.
  • Publicly supportive of their colleagues, the school and their administrators to all others.
  • The ability to plan and work collaboratively with other teachers and the initiative to do it.
  • Excellent organizational skills so that you can meet deadlines and not disadvantage others due to your own tardiness.
  • Curriculum writing experience, knowing how to write curriculum along with a knowledge of an extensive range of assessment practices. We use UbD and Rubicon Atlas.
  • An observation: Clock watchers don’t tend to fit very well in small schools.
  • Reflective teachers who constantly look for ways to improve their practice.
  • Two sound guidelines; if you don’t have something nice to say about someone, don’t say it and if you don’t hear it/see it for yourself, then go straight to the source to find out for yourself.
If the above statements fit with how you like to work, then CIS could be the place for you but read on ………

CIS is at an exciting stage of development. There is a lot of work for an incoming teacher – not only do you need to adjust to living to a new country and city, but there will be hard work to get the school to the level that we are aiming for. We want to be compared to the best in the EARCOS region.

To achieve this aim, we have many avenues to pursue, however within the school, we are focusing very much on curriculum and assessment, using UbD and developing best practice teaching.
It is important that we both work out the ‘right fit’ –

we need to be the type of school that you are looking for, and

you need to be the type of person we need to achieve our goals.

There are many things that can be taught, but you cannot teach a work ethic, or passion for their job – this is what CIS needs.

If you have a strong work ethic (with an ability to laughJ) and you have a passion for teaching and wanting to make a difference to children’s lives, then CIS is the school for you.
