Approaches to Learning Reports
Numerous researchers have concluded that the student is the most important factor in determining how well he or she learns. And the research goes on to say that it is not the students' innate intelligence that determines their success but how they approach their learning. Students who ask questions, reflect, put in extra time to prepare, and are active learners do much better than students who passively wait for learning to come to them.
The purpose of the ATL reports is to identify important attributes and skills and to record how well the students are using them in their learning. The current grid allows the teachers, student and parents to view the student's overall performance and to provide information for constructive discussions and identification of strategies for improvement.
This grid is informative and is not governed by a grade. However, it should be understood that the success of student learning can be closely tied to developing and making progress with the attributes and skills mentioned on the report.
