Student Portfolios

Student Portfolios

CIS student portfolios

The student portfolio is an organized collection of work showing evidence of the student’s progress, and is used to support the student when hosting the student-led conference with his/her parents.  The student is required to reflect on the pieces of work.

Work chosen for the portfolio can be examples of:

  • Work in progress
  • Work that the student is especially proud of
  • Work that has proved to be challenging, with results
  • Work showing all stages of the working process (i.e. drafts leading to the finished article).
  • Each subject should have evidence of work

At any time, the Student Portfolio only contains sufficient evidence of progress over a period of perhaps 2 months.  It is not a collection of the whole year’s work.

See the diagram below:

CIS School Year from the beginning, showing each quarter, to the end.

Students put work in at the beginning, then refresh (update their work) periodically and at the same time discard (remove) out of date work.

At the end of the school year the student may take the portfolio home.
